Email marketing is one of the most powerful relationship-building tools giving you a proven way to nurture leads and convert them into long-lasting customers.

Email marketing is a high-impact, low-cost way to deliver your message to current customers and prospects, but without a good email list, a lot of your digital marketing efforts will barely scratch the surface. It doesn’t matter what type of business you have, an email list is the most important element in your marketing strategy.

What is an email list?

An email list is a collection of addresses that a business has because customers have submitted their emails and opted to receive content and updates about your company via email.

Email lists can get smaller if members unsubscribe, but they will also continue to collect more addresses through Lead Generation

What are some list-building techniques?

  • Create unique email content. If your emails are entertaining, informative, and valuable, your recipients will look forward to receiving them and will be more likely to forward them to their networks. This helps you to gain exposure and obtain additional subscribers.
  • Segment your email lists by buyer persona. If you create multiple targeted subscriber types, you’ll be able to increase the chance that visitors will subscribe to one of them. Marketers who use segmented lists have seen as much as a 760% increase in revenue with their email marketing campaigns.
  • Add an opt-in link to your employees’ signatures. Hyperlinked email signatures can lead people to a landing page where they can sign up for your mailing list. And, if you already happen to be in a natural email conversation with someone, subscribing to more emails seems like a natural step.
  • Use Canva (affiliate link) to create a new lead magnet, like an ebook.
  • Promote an online contest. Use your social media accounts to host a free giveaway that requires contact information to enter.
  • Share newsletter previews on your Facebook profile. Creating a Facebook post that showcases a snippet of your email newsletter is a great way to attract your audience and entice them to join your email list. They’ll be able to preview what you have to offer, which will pique their interest, and they will be able to sign up when you include a link to your sign-up page.
  • Add a call to action to your Instagram bio. Your Instagram bio is a great place to share information with your audience, and a CTA that calls attention to your email list with a link to your sign-up form is great.
  • Guest blog for other websites and share a call-to-action. When you create guest blogging content, include a CTA for readers to subscribe to your sites’ blog or email newsletter.
  • Host an offline, in-person event. Meetups, seminars, education panels, and conferences place you front and center at network events, and those who attend are generally more qualified to be contacted because they came to your event.
  • Encourage your current subscribers to share and forward your emails. Include sharing buttons and an “email a friend” button on your marketing emails. Be sure to include a “Subscribe” CTA at the bottom of your emails, so people receiving the forwarded emails can easily opt-in.

Boost your email marketing efforts by filling your email list with eager prospects who are excited to hear from you. Although building your list takes some time and effort, it can also be fun and is critical to marketing success in the digital age.
